Agriculture
The Agriculture Department, KarbiAnglong plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable agricultural development across the district. The department works towards enhancing productivity, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and ensuring food security through the implementation of various government schemes and extension services. It provides technical guidance, training, and support to farmers on modern agricultural practices, crop diversification, soil health management, and the adoption of improved technologies.
In addition, the department actively promotes locally significant crops such as ginger, turmeric, pineapple, and other horticultural products under initiatives like ODOP (One District One Product).
The district has a total geographical area of about 1,043,400 ha, of which the net sown area is approximately 176,433 ha, and the gross cropped area is around 227,598 ha. There are about 218,791 farming households in the district.
Major crops include paddy, maize, sugarcane, jute, cotton, and high-value horticultural crops such as ginger, turmeric, pineapple, banana, areca nut orange, and papaya.
